RESOLUTION - Stop AI “art”!

EUJS notes that:
- EUJS publications are a testament to the creativity of its members, its staff and its board.
- Art is defined by the creativity of the parties by which it was created. AI-generated content uses elements from art made by human creators, often without their consent. This creates a multitude of problems in regards to artists’ copyrights of their own work or their likenesses.
- AI generation of images, music and videos is a very costly process in terms of energy and environmental resources.
- AI-generated content is being used to produce antisemitic, hateful and misinforming content on social media platforms.
EUJS believes that:
- EUJS publications would largely benefit from exhibiting art created by its members, board or staff, as it would add a human element that expresses the struggles of being Jewish in Europe in the era that we live in.
- The use of AI-generated content restricts human artists from the creative process and eventually damages them heavily.
- The use of AI is impacting the conservation and restoration of natural resources.
EUJS resolves to:
- Where possible, look to find creatives to create content for EUJS publications and online communications.
- When it is not possible to find enough artists, the use of AI-generated content should be limited.
- Advocate for safeguarding policies in European politics with regard to the use of AI-generated imagery which spreads or enhances misinformation and fuels hate or division.
