RESOLUTION - Against any form of Fascism

Preamble:
As Jewish students in Europe, we are deeply aware of the dangers posed by the resurgence of extremist and anti-democratic ideologies. Our history teaches us that hatred, when left unchallenged, erodes the very foundations of free and democratic societies.
Fascism is an authoritarian and ultranationalist ideology that seeks to suppress democracy, concentrate power in the hands of a leader or elite, and eliminate political opposition. It relies on the dehumanisation of minorities, the glorification of violence, and the rejection of pluralism. Historically, Fascism led to catastrophic wars, mass persecution, and genocide, including the Shoah.
Today, these can manifest both in traditional right-wing extremism and in other reactionary movements, including Islamism, that share similar enemy images such as antisemitism, misogyny, and the rejection of liberal democracy.
We stand united in our commitment to confront these threats wherever they arise, to defend the principles of democracy, human dignity, and equality, and to ensure that the lessons of Fascism remain a living imperative.
EUJS notes that:
- (Neo-)Fascist and anti-democratic ideologies are on the rise again in Europe.
- These ideologies are ever-present on campus and are increasingly impacting Young Jews across Europe.
EUJS believes that:
- That both right-wing extremism and Islamism are inhumane and Fascist ideologies which share similar enemy images like antisemitism or misogyny, and see themselves in a “clash of cultures”.
- In the past years, supporters of both ideologies have carried out several bloody terror attacks in Europe, like the Halle synagogue attack in 2019, the shootings in Hanau in 2020, the Charlie Hebdo shooting in 2015, the 2016 Brussels bombings, or the 2020 Vienna attack.
- Those terror attacks are an attempt to strengthen a “clash of cultures” and to divide our liberal societies.
- Because of our Jewish history, values, and the lessons of the Shoah, Anti-Fascism is a necessity.
EUJS resolves to:
- To recognise that Anti-Fascism means confronting any reactionary ideology and promoting a liberated and emancipatory society.
- To campaign for governments, universities, Student Unions and other relevant institutions against any form of right-wing extremism and Islamism.
- To develop countermeasures against both Islamism/Jihadism and right-wing extremism through exploring the creation of educational campaigns.
- To show concrete solidarity with those who are affected by Islamism/Jihadism and right-wing extremism.
