The Austrian Union of Jewish Students is the representation of all Jewish students in Austria, based in Vienna. Founded in 1947, it is a direct descendent of the Viennese "Kadima" (founded in 1882), which was the world's first Jewish student union and eventually disallowed by the Nazis in 1938. Nowadays, we actively support Jewish students at all universities in Austria and are highly politically engaged in the fields of combating antisemitism and right-wing extremism, as well as fighting for a vibrant jewish life and remembrance culture, thus organising demonstrations, political interventions, memorial events, panel discussions, seminars, workshops etc. By hosting multiple cultural events per month, such as our monthly Shabbat dinners, we additionally work to strengthening the young Jewish community from within. Our magazine, the NOODNIK, was originally established in the late 1960's and has been relaunched in 2021. While the NOODNIK gives young Jewish voices to express their lived realities, it specifically addresses the general student body.
