Yom HaShoah 5778 – in living memory, together

I believe in the sun even when it is not shining;

I believe in love even when feeling it not;

I believe in God even when he is silent.

Poem scribbled by Jews in hiding during the Holocaust recited on the occasion of Yom HaShoah at the Council of Europe No Hate Speech Movement Closing Conference

From April 11 evening onwards until April 12, the world marked the Jewish Remembrance Day of the victims of the Holocaust, Yom HaShoah.

As EUJS participated in the Closing Conference of the No Hate Speech Movement of the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg, we held a moment of silence together with the many and diverse groups present at the conference. A moment that reminded us all that “Never Again” can only be true if we work together for an inclusive Europe.

EUJS president, Alina Bricman, addressing the plenary, spoke of the great achievement of the movement in bringing about solidarity between groups. “We are all standing together, for each other”, said Alina.

As Jewish communities throughout the world stood in solemn silence in living memory of the lives lost we were touched to mark this day together with friends from all around Europe.
