EUJS Statement on the antisemitic tweet by Slovenian PM Janez Jansa

The European Union of Jewish Students is deeply shocked by the antisemitic tweet of Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa.

Last Friday 15/10/2021, Mr Jansa made a tweet targeting MEPs, resorting to classic antisemitic tropes implying that Jews control institutions. This demonstration of antisemitism must be firmly opposed. As Jewish students, we know the disastrous effects of dog whistle. By using coded antisemitic language, Mr Jansa contributes to spreading hatred and racist ideologies.

We call on the European People’s Party to promptly expel the Slovenian Democratic Party Socialdemokratska stranka Slovenije (SDS), chaired by Mr Jansa, from its membership.

At a time when antisemitism is on the rise, and just after the publication of the first ever EU Strategy on Combating Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life, there can be NO compromise with antisemitism in the European Parliament.
