EUJS has, alongside 17 other pan-European youth organisations, signed an open letter calling for the President of the European Council to "preserve the fundamental principles" of the Schengen agreement, which allows open borders between continental European nations.
The letter, which was signed by EUJS President Benny Fischer, highlights the "increased migratory pressure in recent months" which "has led to a gradual suspension of the institutions of the Schengen Area.
"This development goes to show that we have failed in giving up internal borders without putting the necessary effort as a Union to secure our external borders. This has resulted in our governments not really trusting each other nor the European agreements and their effective enforcement".
