On December 31st 2008 two Israeli citizens were attacked and shot in the Danish city of Odense. After several weeks of harassment and discrimination, the two victims were shot due to their nationality. The European Union of Jewish Students (EUJS) is shocked and outraged about this recent incident and fear that this attack will lead to similar attacks across the European continent.
Unfortunately, this attack on European Jewry and Israelis is not the first of its kind in recent years and EUJS is concerned that several similar incidents may occur which will lead to a spectacle of hatred of demonization of European as well as World Jewry.
EUJS is concerned and outraged over this recent development and urges the Danish Government, the European Union and the Council of Europe to take further action in avoiding future attacks which contradicts the values of a multicultural and inclusive Europe, in order to ensure the security of all Jewish and Israeli institutions as well as individuals in Europe.
The European Union of Jewish Students, the sole democratically elected voice of European Jewish youth at the European level and at the European Youth Forum, is one of the largest international student organizations worldwide. Its annual programming includes the Summer University, international, inter-religious and inter-generational seminars, study sessions, and cutting edge work that puts it at the forefront of the European context. The European Union of Jewish Students is the sole Jewish youth organization to have obtained the special ECOSOC Consultative Status at the United Nations.
