Bulgaria’s Interior Minister and Deputy PM Tsvetan Tsvetanov has opened the Summer University of the European Union of Jewish Students.

Tsvetanov gave the first lecture of the Summer University in his capacity of Chair of the National Council on Cooperation on Ethnic and Demographic Affairs.

The Summer University of the European Union of Jewish Students is taking place in Bulgaria August 23-29, 2010. This is the first time it is hosted by a country in Eastern Europe.

500 students of Jewish origin from around Europe are taking part in its Bulgarian edition, which will include getting acquainted with Bulgaria’s history, traditions, and contemporary affairs.

“To become real leaders you need to be open, honest, and committed in your relations with others,” Tsvetanov told the students focusing on leadership in his lecture.

A delegation of the American Jewish Committee led by its director David Harris has arrived in Bulgaria for the Summer University of the EUJS. On August 24, Harris will deliver a lecture to the students entitled “The Jewish Leader.”
